MDCG 2025-7 Rev. 1: Implementation Timeline for Master UDI-DI for Contact Lenses and Eyewear

The Revision 1 of MDCG 2025-7, published in December 2025, clarifies the key dates for implementing Master UDI-DI for contact lenses, spectacle frames, lenses, and ready-to-wear reading glasses

Key milestones:

• 28 May 2026: Mandatory use of the UDI/Device Registration module in Eudamed
• 9 November 2026: Mandatory implementation of Master UDI-DI for contact lenses
• 1 November 2028: Mandatory implementation of Master UDI-DI for spectacle frames, lenses, and reading glasses

Manufacturers are strongly encouraged to make use of the voluntary assignment of Master UDI-DI before the mandatory dates of application.

These measures strengthen traceability and patient safety, while simplifying management of highly individualized devices.
